It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn Trafton (Hooks), who passed away peacefully in Bryan, Texas on June 18, 2025 at the age of 87. She was born November 2, 1937 in San Antonio, Texas to parents Ruey Allen and Eva Lura Hooks (Brown). She met her childhood sweetheart and life partner, Larrylee Trafton, in the 8th grade and married him upon graduation from South San Antonio High School in 1956. They celebrated their 68th anniversary last October.
Evelyn was a deeply devoted wife and mother who loved her family and friends with all her heart. She remained faithfully connected to many life-long friends until her death. Evelyn lived most of her life in San Antonio, but also lived 12 years in Spring, Texas where she earned her Licensed Vocational Nursing degree. She worked as a nurse in both the Houston and San Antonio areas for nearly twenty years before retiring and moving to Bryan in 1996. Nursing was the perfect career choice for her due to her kind, gentle nature and ability to always offer a listening ear and words of encouragement to others. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
Evelyn is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Larrylee Trafton; daughter Terri Robbins (husband Jack) and grandchildren Jack Austin Robbins and Alyssa Robbins; daughter Shannon Briggs (husband William) and grandchild Ashley Gilbert (husband Taylor) and three great-grandchildren, as well as step-grandchildren Melissa Briggs and Leslie Darling (Briggs) with three step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Vavala (Hooks).
We will celebrate her life on Friday, July 25th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Parish, Zurich Hall, 2541 Earl Rudder Fwy S, College Station, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories. A graveside burial service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery,17501 Nacogdoches Rd, San Antonio, TX on November 12, 2025 at 2 pm.
