Obituary

Federico “Freddie” Gomez passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, in Bryan, Texas, at the age of 83. Born on June 27, 1943, in Seguin, Texas, Freddie lived a life marked by hard work, devoted family relationships, and a zest for enjoying every moment.

Freddie was a beloved husband to Charlene Peikert and a proud father to his children, Michael Gomez, Arthur Gomez, Sylvia Alvarado and husband John, Monica Gomez, and Richard Gomez. His family also includes his 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, his siblings John Gomez, Pauline Salazar, and Augustine Gomez and wife Julie. He is preceded in death by his father, Victor Gomez, mother, Eufemia Gomez, brothers Ted Gomez and Harry Gomez, and sister Cathy Blanco.

Throughout his life, Freddie was the embodiment of a strong work ethic. He began his career laboring in the cotton fields, followed by concrete work, and then took on a role at Firestone Tire. Ultimately, he found his calling as a charter bus driver—a career that spanned 35 years—where he became known for his reliability and friendly demeanor to all those he encountered.

Those who knew Freddie will fondly remember his inexhaustible sense of humor and uncanny ability to tell stories that would bring laughter to any room. He was, at his heart, a jokester and a storyteller, always ready with a witty remark or an engaging tale.

Outside of his professional life, Freddie enjoyed simple pleasures and lived with enthusiasm. He was an avid dancer, relished the opportunity to travel, and had a deep affection for cruises. A true lover of life’s sweeter things, Freddie never passed up the chance to enjoy Blue Bell ice cream, creating countless cherished memories with his family and friends through shared treats and good conversation.

Freddie’s legacy is one of dedication—to his family, his friends, and the many communities he touched through his years behind the wheel. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of sharing in his warmth and humor.

A funeral service will be held on July 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 3001 S College Ave, Bryan, TX 77801. Interment will take place at a later date at Bryan City Cemetery.

The memory of Federico “Freddie” Gomez will endure through the stories, laughter, and love he brought into the lives of those around him.
