Frank Ray
Clark Sr.
December 25, 1938 – May 16, 2026
Frank Clark was a good man with a loving heart. The son of Roy Quinn Clark and Lemma Gertrude Gibson Clark, he was born in Houston, TX, along with his twin brother, on December 25, 1938. He died on May 16, 2026 in Dallas, TX, surrounded by his family.
Frank is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara Patton Clark. He is also survived by his twin brother Fred Clark and his wife Doris; his children Frank Ray and Theresa Clark, Valerie Clark, Bruce and Stephanie Clark, Stephen Wilson, and Brenda and Marshall Patterson; 12 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. His grandchildren are Colby and Allie Clark, Riley Anne Clark, Trent Jolie and Madison Wagner, Katheryn Clark, Brandon and Marci Clark, Ryan and Kaela Clark, Chris Wright-Clark, Alex Wilson, Chase Wilson, Gabe Patterson, and Gillian Patterson. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sister Karen Clark, brother Carl Clark, and son Jeff Wilson.
A graduate of Sam Houston State University, Frank was a certified Public Accountant, Certified Fraud Auditor, Licensed Massage Therapist, and Certified Master Gardener. He is the former Director of Audits for the Texas A&M University System.
An accurate and beautiful description of Frank is as a “Renaissance Man” who had an extensive range intellectually, emotionally, and practically. He moved comfortably between worlds – practical and thoughtful, skilled and curious, capable of fixing things, understanding people, telling stories, constantly learning, and carrying wisdom from many different experiences. In addition, he had a unique sense of humor with which he could share experiences with a perspective that kept others laughing.
His curiosity began at an early age as he and Fred happily spent time at his grandparents’ farm in George, TX. The stories he told of their adventures and exploration there brought laughter and revealed his desire to understand how things work. This curiosity, love of learning, and ability to see how things fit together led him to be a systemic thinker who could see steps and visualize outcomes. Through extensive research and application of knowledge he gained from his experience, he could figure out solutions to problems when others could not, and he was generous about sharing his knowledge and skills. This was true in his work and personal life.
In retirement, Frank showed his true Renaissance Man character. His diverse interests included fly fishing, organic gardening, genealogy, remodeling/building and cooking. In many of these areas he was on the cutting edge of knowledge and execution. For example, with an eye on healthy eating and the environment, he changed his one-acre garden from black clay soil to a soft organic soil by studying the best techniques and additives to achieve his goal. For fly fishing, he not only learned the methods of fishing but also the craft of making his own flies. This included researching which insects were best in each season and how they would land in the water.
Frank loved being alive and had a solid value system. He always kept his word and was honest and reliable. He deeply loved his family, and seemed to become more expressive with each new generation. His grandchildren brought him so much joy, and his great grandchildren delighted him. He was a loving, wonderful caregiver to Barbara as she became more disabled. He took over all the home maintenance tasks including cooking and shopping. In every way, he made sure that Barbara had what she needed. The love they shared was obvious to all around them.
Frank was a very special person. He left his fingerprints on every aspect of life he touched, especially on the hearts of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and well-remembered.
