Obituary

Gary was born on August 23, 1949, in Brenham, Texas, and went to be with the Lord on May 15, 2026, in College Station, Texas, at the age of 76. Gary lived a life anchored by a deep Christian faith, an immense love for his family, and an enduring work ethic.

Gary was raised in a Christian home, and accepted Christ at an early age. He has been a member of First Baptist Church Bryan since 2011, where he formed deep lasting friendships with members of his group life class, and developed a special bond with each member of Mrs. Bose’s class. He quietly put his faith into action every day, always looking for opportunities to serve others and lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Gary’s biggest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a doting grandfather who poured his heart into his kids and grandkids. He was never too busy for his family. He would stop what he was doing to take a call, run an errand, or ensure their needs were met.

For 50 years, Gary served his community as a skilled Air Conditioning contractor and the proud owner of his business, The AC Store. He was known not just for his expertise, but for his incredibly generous heart. He regarded his customers not just as customers but has developed lasting friendships with many of them.

When he wasn’t working, Gary was often drawn to the water. An avid saltwater fisherman, he owned several boats over the years and cherished his time on the waves. Some of his fondest recent memories were made fishing on his brother’s boat off the coasts of Texas and Louisiana. Closer to home, Gary loved spending time in his yard watching his garden grow even when he had to wage an ongoing battle with the local birds who kept trying to steal his fruit.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Faye McKinzie, and his oldest brother, Jerry McKinzie.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Waynette McKinzie; his brother Orville and Charmaine McKinzie and their family; his sister Hermina Nabors and her family; his daughters, Melissa Newkirk and JoAnna and Reid Wallace; and his son, Garrett McKinzie, 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and countless other friends, and church members whose lives he has touched. His warmth, humor, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him

He is also survived by his step-daughters Robyn and Tim Banks and Valerie and Jeff Morgan; step-son Lewis and Sheridan Clinkscales; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren who he loved dearly.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church Bryan, Memo Line: Mrs. Bose Special Needs Adult Class.
