Gene M Horton, 68, of Bryan passed away peacefully at his home, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 with his loving family by his side.
Gene Mark Horton was born in Brownwood, Texas to Emily “Alice” and Marvin “Jess” Horton II. He graduated in 1975 from C H Yoe High in Cameron, Texas. He drove trucks for many years before finding his passion of owning and operating a convenience store while also being able to do what he loved, which was cooking good food and making people happy. He married the “love of his life” Dana Morris in 1980 and they spent the next 45 years enjoying life and raising their family. In his later years, Gene’s world revolved around his grandchildren. Nothing gave him more joy than to do special things for and with his grandkids. Gene loved to cook BBQ and he took that love and turned it into a thriving business within his store. He was known for miles around for his BBQ at the store in Buckholts. Retiring in 2019, he spent the last six years enjoying life, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Emily “Alice” and Robert “Bob” Terry; father Marvin “Jess” Horton II; brother Paul Brown; sister Frances Belzons, and sisters-in-law Wanda Fierce and Becky Morris.
Gene is survived by his wife, Dana of Bryan; 2 sons Mark Horton of Bryan and Matthew (Brandi) Horton of Cameron; 6 grandchildren Savannah Horton-Doskocil, Tyler Williford, Kinzie Williford, David Williford, Easton Williford and Noah Gene Horton all of Cameron.
