Genene Elizabeth Sasser

July 26, 1934 — October 28, 2025

Bryan

Genene Elizabeth Sasser was born in McAllen, Texas to Alphon and Jessie Mae (MacHam) Serviere on July 26, 1934. Genene grew up in McAllen surrounded by orange and grapefruit trees as her father was a citrus farmer. She graduated from McAllen High School in 1951 at age 16.

Genene met Jimmy in college where they both attended and graduated from Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas. They married on Sept. 25, 1953 and subsequently welcomed 3 daughters into their family. Jimmy and Genene took their daughters and their friends camping, visiting many state and national parks in the US. Genene received a Bachelor’s degree in Education and taught for the Edinburg school district for 27 years where she developed lifelong friends.

Upon retiring, she and Jimmy continued to travel in the US, the Caribbean and Europe, often traveling with friends and family. Genene enjoyed crafting, painting and making beautiful greeting cards to give to others. She loved to read and was a women’s Bible study teacher spending many hours studying the Bible and preparing for each lesson.

Genene was preceded in death by her parents, Alphon and Jessie Mae Serviere, her brother, Robert Serviere and her beloved daughter, Cathy Sasser Davis.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Jimmy F. Sasser, by their daughters, Carole (Andy) Sherrod, and Corine Van, by 8 grandchildren and their spouses, Daniel (Katherine) Sherrod, Rebekah (Andrew) Stallsworth, Sarah (Zane) Oliphant, Anna Sherrod, Michael (Sarah) Sherrod, Lindsey (Eric) Horton, Mark (Lia) Van and Catherine (Seth) Waller. She is also survived by 18 great grandchildren and her dear cousin Alpha Hunt.

Genene was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and we are all better for having had her in our lives. She was kind and fun and funny (always had her sense of humor to the end). We have many wonderful memories of her and she will be missed but rejoice knowing that she’s rising in glory!
