Henry Stovall, a steadfast shepherd to many and a beloved figure within the community, passed away in Bryan, Texas, on June 11, 2025. Henry was born on November 10, 1947, in Ennis, Texas, to parents Burrow "Bill" and Evelyn Downey Stovall.
An educational journey cultivated at Ennis High School, where he graduated in the class of 1966, was just the beginning. He furthered his academic pursuits at Baylor University, graduating in 1970, and later enriched his theological foundation with a master’s degree in religious education from the Baptist Theological Seminary in 1979. With his knowledge and unwavering dedication, Henry embarked on a career as a Pastor, ministering across numerous churches throughout Texas. He devoted his life to nurturing souls and spreading hope until his retirement in 2018.
Henry was a man of deep faith, and his sermons resonated with many, enveloping them in love and guidance. His ability to connect with people transcended the pulpit; he became a confidant and friend to those who sought comfort and wisdom. Even in retirement, his influence remained ever-present, a testament to his enduring spirit and commitment to his calling.
Henry was a man of God with a kind, gentle soul and a true pastor's heart. He put others before himself and was the lifeline of the family. He never met a stranger. He led hundreds of people to the Lord during his lifelong service to Jesus. Family came second only to God. He taught us to be loving, caring, patriotic, good citizens and most importantly followers of Christ. We take comfort in knowing we will see him again one day.
A dedicated family man, Henry is remembered for his devotion to his beloved wife of 57 years, Karen Stovall, who stood by his side through thick and thin, sharing a life filled with laughter, love, and mutual respect. Together, they raised three beautiful daughters, Cari Stovall, Stephanie Hejl and Krista Weller, who carried forth his legacy of compassion and strength. He is survived by his wife Karen, twin sister Mary Stovall Maldonado, his daughters Cari Stovall and Krista Weller, his beloved granddaughters Hannah Hejl (Trevor Scanlon), Melissa (Matt) Conner, Emma Horn, and Lillian Weller were a source of immense pride, as was his great grandson, C.J. Scanlon, who brought joy to his later years, nieces and nephews, Letha Maldonado, Ray (Rachel) Maldonado, Danny (Katie) Rizzo, Maryevelyn Rizzo and Melanie (Darren) Spier, who carry the Stovall legacy forward.
He is reunited in heaven with his departed loved ones, including his daughter, Stephanie Stovall Hejl, parents Bill and Evelyn Stovall, brother, Carl William Stovall, and sisters, Catherine Anne Stovall and Sally Stovall Rizzo and in-laws, Charles and Lillie Windsor.
