Ida Jane “Janie” McBee passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026 at the age of 95. The family had a funeral service and interment followed at the Aggie Field of Honor in College Station. She was laid to rest beside her beloved husband George who passed away in 2023.

Janie was born in San Antonio, Texas on February 24, 1931, the only child of Albert and Vera Maspero. She was active in her high school drill team and graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1948. She then attended Baylor University. In 1952 while working in San Antonio, Janie met the love of her life and best friend, George McBee. They were married on June 25, 1954 at First Baptist Church in San Antonio. Shortly after, they moved to College Station for George to complete his graduate degrees at Texas A&M. They lived in Bryan-College Station for most of their married life, but lived in Lubbock and Weslaco for several years each.

Family was Janie’s greatest joy in life. She had two daughters, Cindy Cummings and Nancy Wells, and four grandchildren and loved spending time with them and planning family gatherings. Janie was famous for her homemade apple pie and it was always requested by her children and grandchildren for holidays and family events. Janie and George also enjoyed many trips together and attending Aggie football games.

Janie had a strong faith in God that was the foundation for her life. She was very active in service at FBC in Bryan and FBC in Lubbock when she lived there. She taught youth and adult Sunday School through the years, volunteered with Buckner Children Services in Lubbock, served on the church Missionary Housing Committee, worked with the Discovery Program for young college students at her church, among other activities and committees.

Janie stayed involved in community activities also. She was in Garden Club, Women’s Club, and especially enjoyed serving as a docent at the George Bush Presidential Library in College Station. She was active in bridge clubs and loved that time with friends.

Janie is preceded in death by her parents Albert and Vera Maspero, husband George McBee, son-in-law Bryan Cummings, and grandson Matthew Dale.

She is survived by daughters Cindy Cummings, Nancy Wells and husband Kerry; grandchildren Jennifer Bubel and husband Neil, David Cummings and wife Courtney, Michael Dale and wife Caitlin; and great grandchildren Bailey, Hayden, Hudson, Avery, Mason, Finley, and Cade.
