IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Imadel Wingfield
Bachus
September 27, 1924 – February 2, 2026
On September 27, 1924, Imadel was born to Louise and Alfred Wingfield in Middleton (Leon County), TX. The family soon moved to Centerville, TX where Imadel graduated from Centerville High School in 1941. She worked for a local law firm until September 1942 when she went to work at a World War II Prisoner of War Camp in Huntsville, TX. There she met a handsome U.S. Army soldier John Russell Bachus, and they married in Centerville on February 6, 1944.
During World War II, John served in the Army at Madill, OK and Camp Claborn, LA. Imadel followed him to each camp where she found secretarial jobs working for the Army. In 1945, when Johnny was discharged, the couple moved to College Station where Johnny began a business career and Imadel began working at Texas A&M University. She worked there for 37 years serving as executive secretary to three different deans in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and was promoted to assistant to the director of Biomedical Sciences before her retirement in 1989.
During her employment, she was the recipient of awards of appreciation from several student organizations and a certificate of appreciation from the Texas Veterinary Medical Association. In the 1980s during a TAMU annual meeting, she was presented the Distinguished Achievement Award in Student Relations.
Imadel was a life-long member of the Church of Christ and a faithful and active member of A&M Church of Christ for over 70 years. Imadel was a member of the Brazos Golf Association and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was past president of the Bryan College Station Evening Study Club and served as a Girl Scout troop leader. She loved playing bridge, shopping for antiques, and entertaining friends.
For 101 years, those who knew Imadel were blessed with her loving and generous life. She entered the heavenly arms of the Lord on February 2, 2026. Imadel was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four older siblings, a niece, and a nephew. She is survived by three nieces and three nephews: Gretchen Bell of Midland, TX; Sandra McBride of Houston; Susan Hill of Loganville, GA; Keith Wingfield of Lake Jackson, TX; Bill Lester of Houston; and J.W. Wingfield, Jr. of Lafayette, LA. Imadel considered her extended family to include her dear friends Becky Russell, Cindy Brooks, and Sallye Henderson, as well as many loved great nieces and nephews, church members, and friends.
The family wants to express appreciation to Tina Morgan, Benselina John, Helena Patanggu and Martha Tumax for their dedicated and loving care of Imadel.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Brazos Valley Hospice, 502 W. 26th Street, Bryan TX 77803 or the charity of your choice. Express condolences with the family at www.CallawayJones.com.
