James David (JD) Herwald, 89, passed away on Saturday, May 16th, in Bryan, Texas. Visitation will be Friday, May 22nd, 2:00-3:00pm, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan. A private graveside ceremony will be later that same day.

James was born on June 18, 1936, in Otto, Texas. He was the son of the late Edward and Hattie Herwald. It was in Mart, Texas, where James met and married Martha McDonald. They were married 62 years at the time of her passing in 2021. James and Martha raised their family in Bryan. James worked for Herwald Pest Control for almost 50 years, retiring in 2006. But he was most known by the whole community for his love of working on lawn mowers, repairing and selling. In Bryan everyone knew that if needed it fixing, take it to JD! He was always helping people:family, friends, and even strangers. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grand father, and great-great grandfather, called Papa by everyone.

James is preceded in death by his wife Martha, parents Edward and Hattie, brother Ernest, sister Ruby Mansfield and brother and sister-in-law Art and Dorothy Herwald. He is survived by his children Pamela, Mark and wife Angela, and Douglas and former wife Dawn; grandchildren Roger and wife Kasyce, Hanna and husband Aaron, Brady and husband Jonathan, Madeline and husband Nicholas, Andrew and wife Katie, and Savannah; great grandchildren Devin, Kaillie, Zoey, Zeyla, Sindri and Samuel; great-great grandchild Kai; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
