James “Jimmy” Vavra was born on April 30, 1944, in Willcox, Texas, to Frank and Mary Vavra. He was a devoted husband, father, and “Pepaw” — not just to his own family, but to many others whose lives he touched. As the beloved patriarch of the Vavra family, Jimmy was a constant source of strength, wisdom, and unconditional love.
On December 29, 1962, Jimmy married the love of his life, Marie Nobles, and together they built a life in Bryan, Texas. They were blessed with five children and 62 years of marriage filled with love, hard work, and cherished memories.
Jimmy was a master mechanic with a true passion for restoring classic cars and vintage tractors. He worked forAlenco for 28 years and later at All Seasons for more than a decade,as well as running his own automotive business.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Vavra; brothers Henry and Jerry Vavra; sisters Pam Kyburz, Marie Brister, and Josephine Hill; his son, James “Jimbo” Vavra; and his great-granddaughter, Haley Rasco.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Marie Vavra; four children and their spouses — Sheila and Edwin Holland, Mark and Paige Vavra, Tina Vavra, and Adam and Niki Vavra; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Frankie Richardson.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the Cancer Clinic — especially Dr. Erin Fleener, Dr. Jamie Pawlowski, Pam Criscitiello, and the dedicated staff of the Infusion Clinic — for their exceptional care, compassion, and support throughout Jimmy’s cancer journey.
Jimmy will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
