Janie Parker
Price
Feb 2, 1933 — Oct 1, 2026
Houston
Janie Parker Price lived a life centered around kindness and love of family. She was born into a large family in Madisonville, TX on February 2, 1933 and passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026 in her home in Houston, TX. She passed, as she lived, surrounded by the love of her family. Her home and her heart were always open for her family and friends.
Janie graduated from Madisonville, High School in 1950 and then attended Draughon’s Business College in Dallas, TX. Following graduation, she began work as a secretary for Burus Mills Company and later for Texaco in Tulsa, OK and Houston, TX.
She met and married Billy Frank Price of Bryan TX in 1951. At the time, Billy was serving his country in the Army. Understanding that he had met the love of his life and not wanting to risk her getting away, he went AWOL and they quickly eloped. They remained married until Billy’s passing in 2016.
After Billy was discharged from the army, the young couple moved to Houston and started their family and business. The family included two daughters, Melanie Dee Price and Amy Elizabeth Price. Their business was Price Compressor Co, which they started in 1957 and where Janie worked until it was sold in 2016. Apart from her family, Janie's greatest pride was her service which included be elected as Regent of the Lady Washington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving on the board of the Theater Under the Stars, and being a member of the Colonial Dames of America. She also served in many other historical and charitable organizations.
Her interest in history and charity lead her and Billy to purchase the property where Stephen F. Austin died in West Columbia, TX. The land at the time had fallen into disrepair. Janie and Billy undertook the restoration of the historical site and turned it into a landmark and public park enjoyed by many. Janie and Billy planted trees grown from acorns from the majestic live oak on the property in all 254 counties in Texas, the Alamo and the State Capital. She then generously donated the land to the State of Texas for its continued preservation an enjoyment by all.
Janie was an avid Houston sports fan and spent many years with her family and friends celebrating the highs (the Rockets championships and Astros World Series) and suffering through the lows, which included her flying to Pittsburgh to watch the Oilers during the Love U Blue years. Through both the highs and lows she remained devoted.
Janie is survived by her daughter Amy, her two beloved grandsons Nicholas and Spencer Proctor, and her son-in-law Stan Proctor. She is also survived by her brothers James Parker, Earl Parker, Jr. and sister Mary Ethel Butler.
Janie was loved by many and her legacy is her family, her many friends, the joy of togetherness, and the quiet kindness she showed to those she loved.
A Service in her honor will be held at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan, TX on October 4 at 2:00 PM.
