Obituary

Jimmie Wilson Rich, affectionately known as "Jim," left this world on February 27, 2026, peacefully at home in College Station, Texas, after a relatively brief but valiant battle with cancer. Born on June 18, 1948, in Amarillo, Texas, Jim's warmth, love for life, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by those who knew him.

Jim enjoyed a colorful and adventurous career that began as a Safety Inspector at the PANTEX plant in Amarillo, which allowed him to travel the world in his youth. His passion for engines and his innate talent for connecting with people led him to a fulfilling role as an Allstate Insurance agent, where he excelled, winning national accolades and achieving the status of top salesman his rookie year. Jim's journey continued as he worked in and eventually owned car dealerships, where he thrived on helping people find the perfect car for their needs. Later in his career, Jim took his extensive experience to the role of Field Auditor and then Monitor for Collateral Specialists, Inc., combining his love for travel and the automobile finance industry. Even in retirement, Jim and his devoted wife, Cheri, found joy assisting Allen Honda in College Station by delivering cars to new owners.

Cheri was not just his beloved wife of 23 wonderful years; she was his perfect match, introduced through their married best friends. Together, they embarked on countless adventures, from drag racing and car shows to exploring the world of motorcycles and the music scene. Their shared joy in family, pets, travel, and life was a testament to a bond grounded in love and friendship nurtured by their faith in the Lord.

Described affectionately as "Mr. Happy" or "Jimmie the D," Jim had an extraordinary ability to connect with people and animals alike. He never met a stranger and always welcomed others with an outstretched hand of friendship. Jim's main goal in life was to lift others up, ensuring they left his presence feeling better than before. He took pride in being a meticulous detailer of every vehicle he touched, especially his beloved Corvettes, and shared the joy of restoring vintage motorcycles with Cheri, often displaying them in museums. A true "pied piper" of needy stray animals, Jim’s generosity of spirit knew no bounds.

Jim's proudest accomplishments were rooted in his remarkable marriage and the deep relationships he cultivated with his closest friends and bike buddies, where laughter and camaraderie filled the air during those cherished moments of "guy time." Riding his motorcycles on crisp, clear days made his heart sing, and these simple joys brought him unfathomable happiness.

Jim leaves behind a loving family that includes his wife, Cheryl L. Rich; son Jay of Spring, Texas; daughter Kris of San Antonio, Texas; stepson Aaron Conklin and wife Rachel of Blacksburg, Virginia; brother-in-law Clifford Collins of Amarillo, Texas; brother-in-law Vic Weil of Hanover, Indiana; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many wonderful combined nieces and nephews.

Though Jim is predeceased by his mother Anita Rich, father Wilson Rich, sister Judy Collins, brother Tony Rich, and his beautiful daughter Whitney, his legacy of genuine love, friendship, and warmth will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jim's ability to share authentic kindness and uplift those around him will be greatly missed, leaving an irreplaceable void in our lives.
