JoAnne Alcorn

March 28, 1946 — September 26, 2025

Bryan, TX

JoAnne Alcorn, 79, of Bryan, Texas passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, September 26.

JoAnne was born on March 28, 1946 in Commerce, Texas to Ruben Joseph Miller and Frances Juanita Miller. She attended public school in Commerce. After high school graduation she attended East Texas State University in Commerce, graduating with a Bachelors Degree. She later graduated from the University of North Texas with a Masters Degree in Library Science.

She met and fell in love with Duane Alcorn while he was at East Texas State getting his Doctorate in Education. They married on January 24, 1976. This coming January they would have celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Shortly thereafter, the newly blended family moved to Livingston, Texas where Duane began his marriage and family counseling career, as well as, being a bi-vocational Baptist minister.

JoAnne was a very accomplished vocalist and pianist, using her talents to serve the Lord, as well as, to teach music to countless students. “Mrs. A” as students called her, worked for many years as accompanist and assistant to Tom Myers, the HS & JH Choir Director for Livingston ISD.

She later worked briefly for the Texas DPS after leaving LISD until they moved to Lake Jackson in 1992.

In Lake Jackson, JoAnne began her career as a librarian at Brazosport College. This position combined her love of reading, interest in genealogy, and gift in academics to encourage her to pursue a Masters in Library Science. She remained in that role until her retirement in 2014.

JoAnne was known by many names: Jan, Mom, Mother, Aunt Jan, Grandmother and G-Mom. Although she cherished each role, her most lasting legacy is that of a Godly woman, much loved, who will be greatly missed.

Some interesting things to know about JoAnne. She loved a good crossword puzzle, enjoyed scrapbooking, and never turned down a game of dominos or a card game. Her favorite was Shang Hai. She made the world’s best red velvet cake with butter cream icing, and her salsa was the absolute best. More importantly, she treated all of her “inherited” children and grandchildren as her own.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Amy Elizabeth Alcorn; and grandson, Dennis Scott Sitton.

JoAnne is survived by her loving husband of almost 50 years, Dr. Leonard Duane Alcorn of Bryan, Texas; son, J.B. Wall and wife Melissa of Pinehurst, Texas; daughter, Jennifer (Wall) Sitton and husband Scott of Bryan, Texas; daughter, Lori (Alcorn) Campbell and husband David; daughter, Julie (Alcorn) Bender and husband Nathan; brother Charles Miller and wife Jackie, of Mesquite, Texas. Grandchildren are Mallory (Sitton) Bell, Lauren (Campbell) Armstrong, Ansley Campbell, Noah Bender, Meagan (Wall) Tennis, Morgan (Wall) Speetzen, Zachary Sitton, and Emily Sitton. Great-grandchildren are Avery Sitton, Rory Bell, Lilah Bell, Bennet Armstrong, Hayes Campbell as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Concho Hearts Hospice of the Brazos Valley. Special thanks to Rachel, Ashley, Jennifer, Brenna, Rhonda, for their compassionate and caring service.
