John Henry
Sefcik
November 3, 1935 – April 18, 2026
John Henry Sefcik, a dedicated professional, proud veteran, and devoted family man, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026, in Bryan, Texas. Born on November 3, 1935, in Caldwell, Texas, Mr. Sefcik’s life was marked by a steadfast work ethic, adventurous spirit, and profound commitment to his family and community.
A 1954 graduate of Caldwell High School, where he was known for his perfect attendance, John furthered his education through his service with the United States Army Reserve from 1960 to 1964. He also served honorably in the United States Army's Armor Branch, what he proudly called “The Combat Arm of Decision,” exemplifying a character of unwavering dedication and patriotism.
John’s professional career was distinguished by his longtime tenure at Sandvik Rock Tools, where he celebrated numerous milestones. His colleagues remember him as a man who not only enjoyed his work but also approached every task with excellence and integrity. His pride in his occupation was matched only by his deep appreciation for the legacy he left behind.
Outside of work, John was an avid outdoorsman with a genuine love for activities like bike riding, hunting, and especially fishing, which was his favorite pastime. True to his nature, he was hands-on, practical, and remarkably organized. His personality was defined by frugality balanced by generosity—always willing to offer support while encouraging wisdom and thriftiness.
His granddaughter, Rebecca Pean, fondly recalls cherished memories of biking, tennis, and fishing outings, crediting him with teaching her valuable lessons about saving and living responsibly. These teachings, she says, have been a guiding force in her life.
John’s pride extended beyond his professional and military accomplishments to his family, whom he regarded as his greatest legacy. He was immensely proud of his son, his granddaughter, and his great-grandsons, standing as a pillar of strength and love through the years.
John is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jerry Sefcik, his son, Scott Sefcik, and siblings Mildred Houdek and Arnold Sefcik. He is survived by his granddaughter Rebecca Pean and her husband Kodey Pean, grandsons Scott Pean, Luke Pean, and Jude Pean, as well as his sisters Gladys Watson and Emmy Welch.
