Leo Sturgeon, a cherished husband, devoted father, beloved grandfather, and treasured friend, passed away on May 16, 2025, in Bryan, Texas. Born on July 30, 1947, in Madisonville, Texas, Leo lived a life marked by profound love for his family and an unwavering passion for the serene beauty of nature.
A man of honor, Leo served in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1970, proudly offering his service during the Vietnam War. This commitment to duty shaped his character and instilled within him a sense of responsibility and respect that echoed throughout his life.
Leo was known for his gentle spirit and generous heart. He devoted himself completely to those he loved, embracing his roles as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend with unmatched enthusiasm. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Schmidt Sturgeon of Bryan, TX, his son Jerry Sturgeon of Plantersville, TX, and his siblings, brother Jimmy Sheffield and wife Demyana of Navasota, Texas, and sister Rose Cates of Bryan, TX. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Brittney Sturgeon Samford of North Zulch; Ryan A. Sturgeon of Abilene, TX; Ryan K. Carter of Lake Livingston, TX; and Ashlynn Sturgeon of North Zulch, TX, along with six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
An avid outdoorsman, Leo found joy in the sport of deer hunting. He spent over thirty years on a deer lease, relishing the tranquil moments spent in a deer stand. To him, these quiet times were not just opportunities to immerse himself in the wilderness, but a chance to reflect and rejuvenate, embodying the peace that he cherished.
As we gather to celebrate Leo's remarkable life, we invite family and friends to join us at the Bryan Community Church in Bryan, Texas, on June 28, 2025. The celebration will be from 1:00pm – 3:00pm, as we honor a man whose kindness and love touched the hearts of all who knew him.
In his passing, we remember Leo not only for the legacy of love he leaves behind but also for the lessons of generosity and compassion that he imparted throughout his life. His parents, Marion and Edith Louise Sturgeon, have welcomed him into everlasting peace, where we find solace knowing that Leo continues to watch over us. We will carry forward his spirit, forever inspired by the love he shared so freely.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to Bryan Community Church.
