Leon Randolph Sinclair Jr.

Leon R Sinclair Jr. entered into heaven and was greeted by his Lord and Savior on Monday October 6, 2025, at the age of 100 years 4 months and 3 days.

Leon was born June 3rd, 1925, in Leon county Texas to Leon R (Bud) and Rubie Edith Sinclair and was raised by his maternal grandparents after the passing of his mother. He graduated from Centerville high school in 1943 where he lettered in football and basketball. Later that same year he was drafted into the US Army. Leon served as a mortar man in the 92nd Chemical Mortar, Battalion 29th infantry in the European theater of operations during the 2nd World War. Wounded in combat, Leon was awarded the Purple Heart, the Army Good Conduct Metal and two Battle Stars for service in Northern France and Germany. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1946.

Leon moved to Crockett, Texas after his military service where he met and married the love of his life Bonnie Genell Arnold. Together they raised a family of five children and later were blessed with 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Leon was known as “The Parts Man”, he was the parts department manager first for Corbusier Chevrolet then Tom Light Chevrolet in Bryan for over 40 years. If you needed a part for any Chevy, he either had it or knew where to get it. He was a mentor to many and was known for his honesty and integrity in all his business dealings.

Leon's life was defined by service. First to his country and then to his community. He was a volunteer driver for the VA, driving veterans half of his age to VA hospitals in Temple and Waco. He was awarded the 10-thousand-mile pin for his service to his fellow veterans. In addition, he donated over 200 units of blood during his lifetime saving countless lives. But Leon’s greatest service was to his Lord and Savior and his family. Leon and Nell joined Calvary Baptist Church in Bryan in 1952 and raised their children in the church together. Leon was a deacon and proud member of the choir, where he made a “joyful noise”. He and Nell prepared meals for the Baptist Student Ministries at Texas A&M and fed thousands of hungry Aggies a home cooked meal. Leon could always be relied on to serve wherever and whenever there was a need. He truly stood in the gap. His love of Christ and his daily walk with the Lord showed in all that he did.

Leon was a family man first and foremost. He was devoted to his lovely wife and children completely and totally. He was a proud Papa to his grandchildren and great grandchildren and celebrated each of their accomplishments. Leon was a skilled and vicious “42” player. He could tell you what was in your hand as soon as you played your first domino. Camping and trips to various lakes and parks were central to the Sinclair family. Boating and water skiing at Lake Somerville, Lake - O- The Pines and fishing the waters around Rockport, TX held a very special place in Leon’s heart. He could fix anything or make anything work if he had some duct tape and wire. But his true gift was his ability to teach any and all how to water ski. He taught his children and most all the members of the youth group at Calvary Bapt. Church. Memories that we will cherish always.

Leon is preceded in death by his mother and father, his stepmother Lettie Elizabeth Sinclair, his grandparents Hattie T. and John W. Robertson, brothers John, Keith, Billy and Jimmy and his loving wife of 72 years Nell. He is survived by his brother Carroll Sinclair, brother-in-law Charles Arnold, his children Suzanne (Lawrence) Hiller, Randy Sinclair, Deneise (Jeff) Raines, Joey (Jennifer) Sinclair, Larry (Debbie) Sinclair and his longtime devoted caregiver Elicia Hunter, 10 grandchildren 21 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many more who called him friend.

A visitation will be held from 4pm - 6pm on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home, 3001 S. College Avenue, Bryan, TX. Funeral service will be Monday October 13, 2025 at 1 pm at the Calvary Fellowship Church, 2009 Cavitt Ave, Bryan, TX followed by interment at North Creek Cemetery in Leon County around 3:30 pm.
