Lila Bertie Beard Palmer, 97, passed away peacefully at her home in Bryan, TX on December 25, 2024. It was her favorite day of the year. She was born in George West, TX to Braxton Beard and Lillian Cash Beard on March 1, 1927 where she graduated from George West High School.

Lila attended both the University of Texas and Baylor University where she excelled in synchronized swimming and theatre. She married Dr. Jack Palmer on November 22, 1947.

Lila was preceded in death by her parents, brother Cole Beard, sister Deanie Beard Metcalf, husband Jack and son Coleman Palmer.

Lila is survived by her niece Sally Gadow and her 4 remaining children: Scott Palmer (Kathy) of Trophy Club, TX, Grant Palmer (Beth) of Kerrville, TX, Deanie Dudley (Mark) of College Station, TX, and JoBeth Palmer (Lisa Kelley) of Bryan, TX. 9 grandchildren: Jennifer Palmer, Stephanie Harding (Jason); Ty Palmer (Bailey), Colton Palmer (Caitlin), Jillian Palmer; Megan Claydon (Jeff), Drew Dudley (Anna), Taylor Dudley (Brianna); and Lila Kae Palmer. 15 great-grandchildren: Lillie Harding, Gavin Wareham, Macie Harding, Luke Wareham, Brewer Harding; Braxton Palmer, Talan Palmer, Hayden Clark Palmer; Blake Claydon, Blair Claydon, Ella Dudley. Mack Dudley, Knox Dudley, Parker Dudley, and Paxton Dudley.

Lila’s greatest pride and joy were her family. She was a wonderful mother that attended as many of her children’s and grandchildren’s athletic and academic events as possible. These events included: football, basketball, baseball, softball, track, volleyball, gymnastics, plays, and graduations.

Lila also enjoyed long walks, swimming and playing bridge. She will also be forever remembered for cooking her massive breakfasts (pancakes) for her children and their friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 1 at 2 pm at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home, 3001 S. College Avenue, Bryan, TX.

A private graveside service will be held in George West, TX on her birthday, March 1, 2025.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Accent Hospice Care and a specialthanks to Melinda Polk and Joe Sanfilipo for their tender loving care of our mother.
