Linda Rae Novosad (McDowell)—beloved wife, mother, “Mimi,” nurse, quilter, and friend—finished her earthly race on June 22, 2025, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan, Texas. Since 2021 she had walked a difficult road with Alzheimer’s disease, that relentless thief of memory and independence. Yet even as the days grew clouded, Linda’s gentle spirit and quiet faith endured. Surrounded by Scripture, hymns, and her family’s ceaseless prayers, she clung to the promise that “nothing can separate us from the love of God” (Romans 8:38-39). In the early hours of June 22, the Lord lifted her from confusion into perfect clarity and joy—welcoming her home, healed and whole. She was 82.
Roots, Wings, and Wonder
Born in Dayton, Ohio, to Col. George McDowell—a proud West Point graduate—and Rae McDowell, Linda learned early to bloom wherever she was planted. She completed high school in London, England, while her father was stationed abroad, igniting a lifelong love of travel that later took her across Europe, Alaska, and Hawaii.
A Life of Service
Linda earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University, forging friendships that lasted a lifetime. A blind date during college introduced her to the love of her life, Ted Novosad; they married in 1965. While Ted completed medical school, Linda worked as a registered nurse at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. In 1971 the couple opened Ted’s medical practice, where Linda served faithfully at his side until 1997.
The Art of Quilting
While Ted tended cattle at the farm or visited family in Normangee, Linda’s passion for quilting blossomed. Over decades she stitched **hundreds of award-winning quilts—each sewn with prayer and love—**for church raffles, newborns, family, and friends. Quilt retreats with her guild became cherished escapes, and she could never pass a fabric shop without stopping—often to Ted’s playful despair. “Mimi’s quilts” will keep future generations wrapped in warmth and memory.
Faith That Steadied Every Step
A devoted member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Bryan, Linda served quietly, prayed fervently, and gave generously—embodying the servant-hearted love she found in Christ.
How We Will Remember Her
Selfless, fiercely independent, quietly intelligent, and endlessly loving, Linda was quick with a listening ear, a timely verse, or a slice of homemade pound cake—always offered without fanfare.
