Mary Anne Jones Kornegay was born on May 14, 1932, in De Leon, Texas to Gladys Esther New Jones and Riley Raymond Jones. Mary Anne passed into her new life on March 22, 2026. She grew up, along with her brother, Kenneth Raymond Jones, in Cisco, Texas and graduated from Cisco High School at the age of 16.
On a blind date Mary Anne met J. W. Kornegay and they married on December 2, 1948. Following J.’s graduation from Hardin Simmons University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary they embarked upon a life together in service to God, and people, at Richland Hills Baptist Church in Ft. Worth, Texas, Brookside Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma and First Baptist Church in Bryan, Texas.
Mary Anne was known for her love and commitment to her family and all people she encountered. She often led efforts to support and help others in need. Over many decades she was the department director of the 5th grade Sunday School department at First Baptist Church Bryan with a positive influence on the lives of many young children. Later she became a faithful member of Grace Sunday School Class where she had many wonderful friends.
Mary Anne worked at Texas A&M University for twenty-five years, where she made significant contributions while at the Computer Services Center working with students, faculty and staff to facilitate their access and usage of the main frame computers.
Mary Anne is predeceased by her parents, brother, and husband. She is survived by her sons Dean Kornegay (Georgia) and Gene Kornegay (Donna) along with grandchildren Meredith Neie (Marc), Geoffrey Kornegay (Katy), Jacob Korson (Lisa), Nathaniel Kornegay (Irish Detablan), Jonathan Kornegay (Tessa Rose), and Matthew Kornegay (Lydia). Great-grandchildren Douglas Neie, Joshua Neie, Leigh Neie, Timothy Neie, Graham Kornegay, Ellis Kornegay, Avalon Korson and Juniper Korson as well as an extensive family of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Bryan on April 21, with visitation at 10:30 AM and service at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to Miracle Farm Boys Ranch.
The family wishes to offer its deep gratitude, along with our highest respect and admiration, to the care givers from Five Points Nursing and Rehab and Remarkable Hospice for their dedicated, capable, and compassionate support for our mother.
