Melinda Louise (McCarthy) Thompson, born on November 30, 1958, in Harlingen, Texas, passed away on August 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Melinda was the seventh of eight children born to James A. McCarthy and Anna Marie McCarthy, growing up in a lively and close-knit South Texas home that shaped her into a woman known for her kindness, resilience, and deep devotion to the people she loved. After graduating high school, Melinda moved to Huntsville, Texas, where she began her college journey at Sam Houston State University. She later transferred to Texas A&M University, proudly earning her bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics in 1982, a milestone she cherished throughout her life.

On September 24,1983, Melinda married her childhood sweetheart and eighth-grade love, Warren E. Thompson, in San Benito, Texas. Their love story spanned decades, built on loyalty, laughter, and unwavering support. Warren remained her constant companion until his unexpected passing on December 15, 2016, a loss that forever marked her heart. Even after his death, Melinda carried his memory with her—speaking of him often, loving him always.

Melinda began her professional career in 1983 at Alenco Window Manufacturer in Bryan, Texas. The following year, she accepted a position as a Purchasing Agent with the Texas Municipal Power Agency (TMPA), where she dedicated more than three decades of service—from 1984 until 2017. In 2019, she continued her professional journey at TEEX at Texas A&M University, serving as a Contract Specialist. Her diligence, integrity, and steady presence earned her the admiration of colleagues and friends alike. In 1989, Warren and Melinda welcomed a baby girl Jessica Marie and then in 1992 they welcomed a son Ryan Edward. She was always a loving caring mother who taught them you always have your Faith Family and Friends.

Among Melinda’s greatest joys was becoming a grandmother—affectionately known as “Meme.” She adored her first granddaughter, Charlotte Marie Paul. Proudly cheering from the stands, she loved watching Charlotte play softball, dominate on the basketball and volleyball courts. Their shopping trips together were treasured moments filled with laughter, stories, and the simple joy of being together.

On June 20, 2025, she welcomed her second granddaughter, Jocelyn Kate Thompson, and embraced her with the same warmth and devotion. Melinda loved spending time with her, celebrating each new milestone and delighting in the sweetness of watching her grow. Being Meme was one of the roles she cherished most deeply, and her granddaughters brought her immeasurable happiness.

Melinda carried a gentle strength that touched everyone she met. She had a gift for listening, comfort, and making people feel seen. Her laugh was unmistakable, her compassion unwavering, and her presence brought warmth wherever she went. When she wasn’t spending time with family, she often got together with her “Kurten Girls” Group, served on the St. Joseph’s Women Guild, had dinner or lunch with TMPA Alumni, and of course, spent time with the numerous friends she met through TEEX.

Melinda was preceded in death by her mother, Anna Marie McCarthy (1979); her father, James A. McCarthy (2012); her father-in-Law, Melvin Lemoyne Thompson (2007); her husband of 33 years, Warren E. Thompson (2016); and her brothers, Matthew McCarthy (2025) and Michael McCarthy (2025).

She is survived by her brothers Mark (Wanda) McCarthy of Boerne and Mitchell (Cindy) McCarthy of Bryan; her sisters Margerite Thompson of Harlingen, Mary Adele (Roger) Harms of Dallas, and Marietta (Ken) Schmidt of Houston; her daughter Jessica (Austin) Paul of Snook; her son Ryan (Katie) Thompson of Comfort; her granddaughters Charlotte Marie Paul of Snook and Jocelyn Kate Thompson of Comfort; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends who will forever hold her memory close.

The visitation with the family and Rosary will be held on August 30, 2026, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center, 3001 S College Avenue,  Bryan, TX 77801. The funeral mass followed by the gravesite interment will be held on August 31, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 507 26th Street, Bryan, TX 77801 then Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 600 E 26th Street, Bryan, TX 77803, where family and friends will gather to honor her beautiful spirit and the love she shared so freely. Following the cemetery, the family will return and ask you to join them in a meal prepared by the Ladies of St. Joseph Catholic Church at the Parish Activity Center (PAC).
