Melvin Alan Casey

April 1, 1995 — September 7, 2025

Bryan

Melvin Alan Casey was born in Bryan, TX on April 1, 1995. He passed away on the evening of September 7, 2025 after a nearly three year battle with cancer. Just prior to his passing, he prayed to receive Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized. We are thankful to the chaplains at St. Joseph Regional Health Center for walking him through this decision and expression of faith during his final moments on this earth.

Melvin, or Big MAC as he was known by family and friends, was adopted in August of 1998, along with two of his siblings, by Robert and Julia Casey. He lived in Bryan-College Station, Brenham and Bellville during his childhood. Melvin loved being outdoors, playing roughly in the yard, hitting homeruns off his tee and eating good food. He never met an olive that he didn’t devour. His smile and contagious joy could light up a room and his appreciation for a good meal would paint a masterpiece across his face. As he grew, he developed a love for horses, roping, farm work and sports. He spent countless hours throwing his rope at roping dummies around the farm. He dominated his youth football league as his mom yelled encouragement from the stands. He played through much of his junior high and high school years.

Through his high school and young adult years, life was challenging due to living with bi-polar disorder. Through all the challenges and trials, he never lost his joy for the outdoors and the simple side of life. He would hunt, fish, camp and eat just about anything he caught, trapped or killed. He fell in love with cooking and at one point aspired to go to culinary school. He always maintained a deep joy in grilling or smoking meats and being around a fire. Staying up all night to tend the fire and smoke some ribs or a brisket was rejuvenating to him. The simplicity and joy of nature and farm life never left him. He once ran out of diesel shredding a pasture simply because he lost himself in the pure joy of riding a tractor. He desired to finish high school and, at the same time, became a certified welder when he completed an 18 month program in just ten months at Gary Job Corps in San Marcos, TX. Once certified, he worked for Gooseneck, SteelBuild and several other metal fabricators. He was very gifted in his ability to fix things and work with his hands. His favorite thing to fix was his fishing pole or trotline in a river.

Melvin will be missed by many. He is survived by his parents, Robert and Julia Casey of Pittsburgh, PA; his brother and sister-in-law, Trey and Cheyenne Casey of Bryan, TX; brother Cullen Casey of Pittsburgh, PA; his sisters, Taneshia Casey and Amelia Casey, both of Pittsburgh, PA; and numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, grandparents and biological relatives.

We offer a special thank you to Shay Killibrew, one of Melvin’s biological siblings, for her constant support and presence during Melvin’s final days. Based on his own wishes, Melvin’s remains will be scattered across parts of the country in different rivers and lakes where he would have loved to thrown in a line. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to Hospice of the Brazos Valley.
