Melvin Seay, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 20, 2025, in Round Rock, Texas, at the age of 87. Born on September 12, 1937, in Bryan, Texas, Melvin led a life marked by kindness, humor, and a profound love for his family.
Melvin’s career began with the City of Austin, after which he returned to Bryan and dedicated years to Sears until his retirement. His service to his country in the Air Force, where he spent four years—much of it stationed in Japan—was some of his proudest accomplishments. This experience allowed him to travel the world and shaped the man he became.
A man of many interests, Melvin enjoyed playing softball, roller skating, and dominoes in his youth. He had a deep passion for dancing, often lighting up the floor at his favorite hangout, "The Cowboy," where he danced to country music, two-stepped, polkaed, and waltzed with grace, he was “country” Fred Astaire. He was a familiar face, known for his cheerful demeanor and witty humor that delighted everyone around him. Memories cherished by his loved ones include playing pool with him, sharing stories of his children, Danny and Terri, and watching him dance.
His family fondly remembers his light-heartedness and playful spirit. Phrases like “Shut up Melvin” during jokes, “just sitting here looking stupid,” and “I need a million dollars!” were his signature responses that brought laughter and warmth to gatherings. Melvin was not one to get mad easily; rather, he respected others and always sought to put a smile on their faces. He taught his loved ones the invaluable lesson of never judging a book by its cover, a testament to his character as a kind and cool-headed man.
Melvin is survived by his loving son, Danny Seay and his fiancé Rachel; his daughter, Terri Krumnow and her husband Jim; and his cherished granddaughters, Amanda Seay and her husband Alex, and Alyssa Mata and her husband Pedro. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Zoe Laurel. Melvin is further survived by his sister, Paula White and her husband Rodger; his brother, Matt Lovell and his wife Donna; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving neighbors, Eddie and Pritica Embra and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lois Lafaye McLain and Lois Alman “Half” Seay; his sister, Brenda and her husband Tommy Fleming; and his brother, Donald “Donnie” Raymond Seay.
A graveside service to honor Melvin’s life will be held on August 25, 2025, at Willowhole Cemetery in North Zulch, Texas, beginning at 10:00 AM. As we remember Melvin Seay, we celebrate the legacy of a man whose laughter and love will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
