Obituary

Michael Alan Fredericks of College Station, Texas, passed away Tuesday evening, April 14, 2026, after a lengthy hospital stay. His children and family had been with him during his last days and know he was at peace.

Those who knew Mike will remember him as a huge nature lover who hunted, fished, and scuba dived - spending time outdoors for work and recreation whenever he could. Looking through photos the evening he passed away, there was rarely a picture of him when he was not outdoors or outdoors with his boys. His sons, Spencer and Connor Fredericks, were the proudest and biggest joys of his life. He loved having them with him and even as babies he took them out to the country to run around and fish and work with him.

Generous, good-natured and outgoing, Mike made friends easily. He lived as a prime example of a rugged individual, but he was intensely social, often the first and last person at a party. He was smart, creative, and accomplished in the things he loved. He was a master scuba diver and designed and built mechanical equipment for his previous work in oceanography. He became a nurse later in life, helping elderly and incarcerated individuals with care that did not discriminate. He often created art and furniture for himself, family and friends. No matter how much or how little he had, he was always willing to give to those around him.

Mike is survived by his sons, Connor and Spencer Fredericks, his mother Marianne Fredericks, his sisters Vivian (and Tim) Powell and Mary (and Jim) Smith, as well as nephew Gary (and Carla) Powell, and nieces Natalie (and Richard) Sanchez, Valery (and Dustin) Smith-Ryan and Shannon Smith, along with a number of great-nieces and -nephews, several cousins and his aunt Theresa (and Rick) Carhart. He was preceded in death by his father, Alan Fredericks.

A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, May 3rd at 11 AM at the covered pavilion at Thomas Park in College Hills where he grew up and lived for many years.
