Michael Reedy Mathews

Michael “Mike” Reedy Mathews was born on June 11, 1943. Mike passed away November 10, 2025 peacefully at home. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Penne McCollum Mathews.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Mindy Mathews Greene and husband, Terrance Greene, grandsons Jarod Magaha and Jaden Mathews; Judy Mathews Cooper ( sister) and husband Bill Cooper; Barbara Mathews Hightower (sister) and two nephews - Gary Hightower and Jeffrey Hightower.

Mike lived a life defined by service and integrity. A proud graduate of the 1961 Plano High School class. Mike continued his education at Texas A&M University before entering the Police Academy in December of 1976. His distinguished law enforcement career, in the College Station Police Department, spanned more than 30 years, during which he rose to the rank of Lieutenant with the Police Department. His dedication to protecting and serving his community earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and citizens alike.

In September 1982, Mike attended the prestigious FBI National Academy, an experience he often described as one of the highlights of his life. There he met colleagues from around the world and forged lasting friendships. He cherished the time spent in Washington, D.C., and his travels through Gatlinburg and Knoxville, Tennessee, during that period.

Mike retired from the College Station Police Department on July 31, 2006, closing a chapter of remarkable public service. Outside of work, he was an avid reader of westerns and adventure stories, a lifelong admirer of cowboys, rodeo, and horse racing, and someone who loved the authenticity of the western way of life.

Mike will be remembered for his steadfast character and unwavering commitment to doing what was right. His legacy of service and love lives on in those who were fortunate enough to know him.
