Mildred grew up in New Orleans and Dallas. The Carpenters moved to Dallas in 1947. She attended Adamson High School and was an outstanding student, a member of the National Honor Society and participated in the Choir.
Mildred met Ross George in early 1949, and they began dating in May 1949. After completing high school in January 1952, she attended Abilene Christian College for one semester.
Mildred and Ross were married on June 27th, 1952. They moved to College Station in 1953 for Ross to continue in college and Mildred worked at Texas A & M College.
Their son Bryan was born in June 1955 just prior to Ross’s graduation. They moved to Dallas where their children Glenn and Laura were born.
Mildred was active in raising the family, church and church music programs. She was interested in music and had an outstanding soprano voice. She continued to take voice lessons for most of her adult life.
Mildred and family lived in Texas until their 3 children had completed high school. In 1980 Mildred and Ross moved to the Boston, MA area for his employment.
In Boston, Mildred had an opportunity to take voice lessons from a former opera performer, and from a professor of the Boston Conservatory. While in Massachusetts, Mildred sang in numerous choral groups and was the church soloist.
She accompanied Ross on many of his business trips in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Scandinavian and one trip China.
In 1997 they purchased a building lot on a golf course in Austin, Texas area in preparation for retirement. A new house was completed and Ross commuted between Texas and Massachusetts for a few years.
In 2006 they purchased a second home in College Station, Texas for a football weekend retreat. Ultimately moving full time to College Station.
The last five years Mildred suffered from dementia but she had a great group of caretakers. She went home to Jesus on her 73rd wedding anniversary.
Mildred is survived by her husband of 73 years Ross Bryan George Jr. Her three children, Ross Bryan George III, Dickie Marie George, Glenn Alan George and Susan George and Laura Crumpacker. Ten grandchildren, Ross Bryan George IV, Ashley Pomeroy, Melissa Shipp, Matthew George, Austin George, Luke George, Samantha Boyd, Will Flannigan, Clark Crumpacker and Aaron Crumpacker. She is survived by fourteen great grandchildren.
She is a well-connected “Aggie” being the daughter, wife, niece, mother and grandmother of A&M graduates.
