Peggy Diane Massie Johnson

Peggy Diane Massie Johnson went home to be with her Savior on June 19, 2026.

Peggy was born on November 7, 1947 in Belton, Texas to William and Virginia Massie. She grew up in Belton until she moved with her family to Selma, North Carolina at the age of 10. She graduated from Selma High School.

Peggy married the love of her life, Michael L. Johnson on January 2, 1968. They had many adventures together, first living in Ruislip, UK, where he was stationed with the United States Air Force, then in Florida, before moving to Bryan, Texas in the early 1970s. They loved spending time outdoors, especially camping.

In 1977, Peggy went to work for the Texas A&M Library system, beginning at Evans Library. In 1980, she moved to the Medical Sciences Library, where she worked in technical services until her retirement in 2011. She was an expert cataloguer.

In 1982, Mike and Peggy began their greatest adventure when they became parents. Sarah, Michael, and Nathan were the greatest joys of her life. In 2021 and 2024, she added her two grandchildren, Callie and Parker, who she loved dearly. Every day, she eagerly awaited pictures of them on Facebook.

Peggy loved the outdoors and took great pleasure in working in her yard. Her backyard was always blooming and became a sanctuary for pollinators, birds, and squirrels. In retirement, she spent her time planting flowers and feeding the creatures who called her yard home.

Peggy was also a voracious reader. In retirement, it was not unusual for her to read up to two or more books a week. She especially enjoyed cozy mysteries. She also loved women’s basketball. She rarely missed an Aggie women’s or South Carolina game and especially enjoyed watching these students as they played in the WNBA.

Finally, Peggy loved her pets. While she had many dogs and cats over the years, Friskie, Abbey, Sadie, and AJ held a special place in her heart. After Mike passed away in 2020, AJ became her constant companion.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, William Massie, Viginia Massie, and Dorothy Jean Massie, and her husband, Mike Johnson. She was also preceded by her uncle and aunt, Cecil and Nina Massie, and her aunt, Mary Hicks, all of whom she loved dearly.

She is survived by her children, Sarah, Michael, and Nathan, Nathan’s wife, Jaclynn, and her two grandchildren, Callie and Parker Johnson. She is also survived by her uncle, Weldon Hicks, cousin Sandra (Wade) McBride, Sandra’s daughter, Megan (Bill) Brimijoin, and their children, Cameron and Elliott. Finally, she is survived by her brother-in-law, Johnny Johnson, her nieces, Angie Johnson-Suggs, Brandee (JC) Plott, and their children, and her nephew, Jay Johnson (Aimie).

Peggy will be laid to rest at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Nolanville, Texas. Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church, Bryan, Texas, where she was a member for over 40 years, and Aggieland Humane Society, from where she and Mike adopted her precious AJ.
