Richard “Rick” Davis, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and servant of Christ, entered into the presence of his Lord on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at the age of 61, after battling, and seemingly winning, against cancer until the last week of an eight month war.
Rick’s life was marked by faith, devotion, and a fierce love for both his family and those he served. He began each and every morning in prayer and Scripture, grounding himself in God’s Word before pouring into others. He lived with passion and purpose, whether running marathons, coaching flag football, advocating tirelessly for those without a voice in the courtroom, or keeping bees.
A proud member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 1985, a cadet in Company E-1, Rick earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering and served in the Texas Army National Guard for 13 years, rising to command an M-1 Tank Company. He also worked as an engineer for NASA contractors (Rockwell and McDonnell Douglas) while completing law school, balancing family, and National Guard with characteristic determination.
Rick’s legal career began in private practice before he was elected as judge of Brazos County Court at Law No. 2, and later the 272nd District Court of Texas. In 2007, he authored The Prison Sermons, a book offering encouragement to inmates and their families. After completing his service as judge, he returned to private practice and founded Rick Davis & Associates, where he dedicated himself to serving clients with integrity and compassion. He also served on the boards of SOS Ministries, the Blinn College Paralegal Program, and the local bar association, and he delighted in mentoring young lawyers and students.
More than his achievements, Rick cherished his family. He and Carolyn shared almost 39 years of a strong and joyful marriage as true companions and best friends. He loved surprising her with flowers, planning little adventures, and savoring the everyday moments that made their life rich. Rick was a dad who never missed an opportunity for a captivating story, a dad joke, showing up for his kids’ events, or a board game around the table. He also loved the outdoors and often said, “A bad day hunting is better than a good day at work.” Rick was an avid hunter, though never a trophy hunter. He found joy in camaraderie, trekking miles through fields of wild sunflowers during dove season, coordinating deer hunting groups with his children, and sharing the experience with his eclectic group of friends. He was quick to bring extra gear so that no one was ever left out. He could be found building sandcastles with family at the beach, gathering everyone together for a celebration, or sharing wisdom about faith and life.
Rick is survived by his wife, Carolyn Davis; their children Luke Davis and wife Alyssa with their children Vivienne and Wesley, Joshua Davis and wife Lizzie with their children Jackson and Joy, Aaron Davis, Paul Davis and wife Angela with their daughter Taylor, Libby Davis, and Tim Davis. Rick’s family will forever cherish his humor, wisdom, and the unwavering faith he modeled in every aspect of life.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Bryan, Texas. That evening, friends are invited to gather at Murphy’s Law from 5:30–7:30 p.m. for an open-mic reception to share memories and stories of Rick’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to SOS Ministries https://saveourstreetsministries.org/give/ Richard “Rick” W.B. Davis ‘85 Corp of Cadets Endowed Memorial scholarship http://give.am/RickDavis85CorpsMemorialScholarship and Brazos Valley Cares https://brazosvalleycares.org/, causes close to Rick’s heart.
