Ronny Layne Jones, 76, of Bryan, Texas went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 22nd, 2025 in his home surrounded by his family after a recent diagnosis of cancer.
Ronny came into this world August 28, 1948 in Hico, Texas the first-born son of Walter Carl and Nina Burgan Jones.
Ronny graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1966, then went on to attend Texas A&M University, earning his Bachelors of Science in Industrial Distribution in 1977.
Ronny began working at a young age. He started his professional career working for the Texas Highway Department. He went on to be a supervisor for R. B. Butler Construction Company. In 1988 he started his career with First Baptist Church Bryan where he served as the Building Superintendent until his retirement in 2015.
In the words of Walter Carl Jones, Ronny married his first wife, Kay Raborn on May 15, 1975 at First Baptist Church Bryan. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family at their home. They first met when Kay was 15 years old and she was visiting the states from Hong Kong. Their relationship blossomed after she returned to the states to attend college. They had three boys and have been blessed with eight grandchildren.
Ronny is well known in his community and is a lifelong Bryan resident. He coached Little League Baseball and later transitioned into umpiring. He worked his way up from Little League, to High School and even into Junior College umpiring. A life long lover of music, he played trombone since high school. He has been a faithful member of the First Baptist Bryan Orchestra and Brazos Valley Community Band. His real musical passion was the guitar. He played his guitar, Gertrude, for the children of First Baptist and has taught lessons throughout the years. His passion for music did not stop with instruments. He started singing at a young age where he was in the youth choir at First Baptist, sang in the adult choir, and most recently he has been an active member of the Broadman Singers. He faithfully taught Children’s Sunday School at First Baptist for decades. Prior to serving in the Children’s Ministry, Ronny taught in the College Ministry. While Ronny was not a full time missionary, he loved sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. Ronny worked in Estonia and El Salvador on countless mission trips. Ronny also served locally. He served on the board of the Aggie Baptist Student Ministry. Up until his passing, he was a board member and dedicated volunteer for the Bridge Ministries. Ronny has been a deacon at First Baptist where he loved serving his church family. Ronny cared deeply about others and has attended the Friday morning prayer group since before his retirement.
Ronny will always be remembered for his servant heart. He has touched the lives of thousands through the years through his various acts of service. He never met a stranger and made certain to value everyone equally. A true follower of Jesus Christ, his passion was to make His name known to the nations, whether locally or abroad.
Remaining to cherish Ronny’s memory are first spouse, Kay; children, daughter in law, Sabrina and her husband Jeffrey, daughter in law, Dee and her husband Greg, and daughter in law, Shannon and her husband Scott; grandchildren, Gabi, Blaine, Garrett, Walt, Noah, Levi, Finley, and Gracie; brother, Carl; sister, Leslie; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding Ronny in death are parents, Walter Carl and Nina Jones.
Visitation will be held June 30th at 5pm at Callaway Jones. Funeral services will be held July 1st at 2pm at First Baptist Church Bryan, with Jim Jackson officiating. Interment will be in Bryan at Restever Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial donations in Ronny’s memory may be directed to the Bridge Ministries.
