Roy Lee Temple, Sr was born on Wednesday, April 13, 1949, in Winnsboro, Louisiana. In his final hours on earth, the only thing Roy wanted was to be surrounded by those he loved, in the Bryan, TX log home he proudly built for his family with his own hands. Roy went to be with his heavenly father on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the age of 77 years. When those closest to him were asked to describe Roy, these are the words they used: My Daddy, Man Among Men, Grateful, Loyal, Strong, Genuine, Loving, Hard Working, “GREAT” Grandpa, Caring, Sense of Humor, Soft, Good Dude, Loved, Pudding Budding, Handy, Dumpster Diver, Brick Laying Buddy, Big Brother, and My Soulmate.

Roy leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Darlene Chandler Temple. Roy and Darlene were introduced to each other by family members. He loved to tell the story of the first time he saw Darlene. He said she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen when she first walked out, but when he saw her tiny little feet he knew she was the one. Less than 3 months later, they married on February 25, 1972. Together they raised four children and were second parents to many more.

He is also survived by three of his four children and their spouses: Markus Morace (Teresa), Roy Temple, Jr (Jeannie), and Travis Morace (Lisa); Eleven Grandchildren: Lee Richardson (Kindle), Lacie Morace, Darla Waldrup, Tim Jones (Kim), Teddy Jones, Joshua Morace (Megan), Matt Morace, Jesse Temple, Tory Taylor (Tyrone), Chad Morace (Emily), and Kayla Tinnell (Caleb); And the absolute joys of his life, fourteen beautiful great-grandchildren. Also mourning this loss are his brother Larry Temple (Fay), brother-in-law Barney Chandler (Shirley), and a friend of 40+ years, Robert Nichols.

While Roy was never defined by his work, his family was extremely proud of it. He spent his early life working in the Oilfield, but after marrying Darlene he was willing to learn a completely new trade so he could spend more time with his family. Darlene’s father, Carl Chandler, took Roy under his wing and taught him carpentry. Roy spent much of his life working alongside his father-in-law and brother-in-law, Barney Chandler. His love for anything wood and his talent for building things, especially beautiful cabinetry, earned him the CB handle of Hammerhead.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents: William “Gid” Temple, Willie Mae Lilly and James Pecanty, his mother-and-father-in-law Carl & Dorothy Chandler, his only daughter whom he loved so much, Amy Morace, and his sister-and-brother-in-law Paul & Carolyn Button.

But more importantly than anything, Roy loved God, believed in Jesus, and was a loving Christian man. Because of this, we all know without a doubt, we will see him again!

Pallbearers are his grandsons: Lee Richardson, Chad Morace, Josh Morace, Matt Morace, Teddy Jones, and his great-grandson Jayden Hawkins. Honorary pallbearer will be Tim Jones.

Family and Friends can gather to uplift Darlene during this difficult time and to say their last earthly goodbye to Roy on Wednesday, August 5th, during Visitation from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm or Thursday, August 6th at the 10:00

am Service at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home, 3001 South College, Ave, Bryan, TX. There will also be a graveside gathering at Restever Cemetery following the Service for any who wants to join.
