Terence Lee Johnson

October 9, 1960 — November 23, 2025

Stephenville, Texas

Terence Johnson (65), beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and children on November 23, 2025.

Terry is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 41 years, Elizabeth (nee Russell), his daughters Melonie Benavides (husband Jason) and Angelina Zarate (husband Ricky) and his sons James (wife Bethany) and David (wife Kellye). He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Liliana, Silas, Levi, Peyton, Ryder, Nicholas, Isabella, and Alice, each of whom brought him immense joy. He also leaves behind his sister, Sandy Johnson and many nieces and nephews.

A man of service and dedication, Terry honorably served 22 years in the United States Army, retiring as a First Sergeant. His military career took him all around the world -- Fort Bliss, Colorado Springs, Germany, Kansas, Australia, Thailand, Wake Island, Hawaii and he finally retired teaching ROTC at Tarleton State University. After his military service, Terry continued to shape lives through education, working as a middle school teacher, coach and principal in Dublin, Texas. His guidance and encouragement inspired countless students. He then worked for several years investigating allegations of child abuse and neglect for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services – keeping kids safe.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Terry found joy on the golf course, spending countless hours on the greens with his best pal, Gus. He was also a life-long, die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, cheering them on with unwavering loyalty every season. His love for the game of football—whether played, coached or watched—reflected his spirit: patient, competitive, and always ready with a joke.

His sense of humor and ability to make anyone laugh is usually the first thing people say about him. His love for and unwavering devotion to his family and friends will be cherished forever. He will be deeply missed, if years of life were measured by the people who loved you, Terry Johnson would have lived forever.
