Penelope Dickas

Penelope (Penny) Green Dickas (May 18, 1940 – August 10, 2017)   In her final days, Penny, age 77, was blessed to be surrounded by many of those that she loved the most; her four children, twin sister and other family members.   Born May 18, 1940 to Helen Hinkson and Clarence Douglas Green in St. Charles, MO, Penny spent her summers at her grandmother’s family homestead in LaBelle, MO, a place she revered throughout her life as “home.”   Outside of LaBelle, her formative years were spent in East Lansing, MI where she graduated with honors from Michigan State.   Later she earned her masters degree in education from the University of Wisconsin – Superior while also raising her children.   She loved to garden, play bridge, write poetry, create unique original recipes, and play Shanghai with her grandchildren.  She also enjoyed filling her free time with crafting projects that involved recyclables and was most proud of her “greenart” jewelry- which she freely shared with friends and family.   A book of her poems, Lyrics for a Lady Bug, was published in 2013 under her pen name, Pen Douglas; an accomplishment she was especially proud of.   During her lifetime she made her home in Superior, WI and lived her later years in the Georgia mountains and College Station, TX.  She had a kind and generous heart and will be missed.

Penny is survived by her children; Helene McClanahan (William), Virginia Ford (John), Doug Dickas (Lisa) and Jennifer Flavell (Wayne), twin sister; Jennifer Green Harvey, Grandchildren; Kathryn & Jessica Blowers, Maggie & Eli Ford, James, Thomas & Braden Dickas and Gabrielle Flavell, nephew: Zane Harvey (Emily) and niece; Marianne Harvey.   A celebration of Penny’s life and burial will take place at the Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, MO at a future date.  For local College Station residents there will be a memorial gathering at the Villas of Rock Prairie, Saturday, August 26th at 6pm.   Her family would especially like to thank Hospice Brazos Valley for their exceptional care and support during Penny’s final days.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be dedicated in Penny’s name to Hospice Brazos Valley, http://www.hospicebrazosvalley.org

Condolences for the family of “Penelope Green Dickas”

Condolence from Sharon Boston on August 13th, 2017 10:06 am

Dear Jinny, Maggie and family,

My sincere condolences for your loss of your Mom and Grandma. My prayers and thoughts that Penny didn’t suffer and seamlessly reached the other side for the light and eternal bliss.

I still cannot imagine not seeing Penny at the Food bank or at bridge. She just hosted us or bridge just recently.
I have good memories of playing shanghai with Jenny. To lose someone so unexpectedly who was so close and such a good friend causes an acute grief. I am literally going through Keebler Ross’s stages of grief. My prayers and thoughts are with each of you as you grieve.
Love you, Sharon

Condolence from Becky Pfeiffer on August 14th, 2017 1:24 pm

Please know that the Pfeiffer family extends their deepest sympathy to your families. I always loved seeing Aunt Penny when she came to town. I remember going to Bakersfield to visit when we were kids. I wish we were all closer and had grown up closer to each other. I would love to keep in contact with my grown up cousins if possible. I look forward to seeing everyone in LaBelle.
