Ramona McNeal

Ramona C. McNeal peacefully passed away December 26, 2018. Ramona or Monie, as many lovingly referred to her, was a one of a kind, genuine spirit. She was born in Kingsville, TX on May 14, 1933 where she lived until starting her own family. Her parents Edwin C. Hubert and Agnes A. Hubert, her siblings Charles S. Hubert, George F. Hubert, Patricia J. Hubert, her daughter Lisa A.McNeal, preceded her in death.

Ramona graduated from H.M. King High School and spent her first years of married life raising her young family in Kingsville, TX. After moving several times, Ramona settled in College Station, Texas. She spent many years as a doting housewife.  After her children were grown, she worked as a dorm director for Blinn College in Brenham, Texas, until her retirement in 2002.

Family and friends were Monie’s number one priority in life. She made it her mission to ensure they all knew how much they were loved, through her weekly phone calls that lasted for hours, to her special notes (long letters) and thoughtful gifts. She was as generous and loving as they get, becoming a second mother to many. Her faith in God was evident to all those around her. She enthusiastically shared her wisdom to help those struggling or in need of a kind word. She beamed with excitement when talking about her children and grandchildren. When not focused on family or work, Ramona spent her time gardening. It was her passion and she certainly had a knack for growing beautiful flowers and a bountiful garden. Her love of nature and animals was evident through her affection for all types of animals and wildlife. She was an amazing Grammie, to her grandchildren and is already dearly missed.

Three adult children survive Ramona, Dr. Catherine J. McNeal (Ronald Macfarlane), James Scott McNeal, Chad C. McNeal (Stacy McNeal), granddaughters Dr. Caitlin Macfarlane, Faith McNeal, grandson Reed McNeal, and siblings Mary Ann Yaklin (Philip), Edna M. Cable, Edwin P. Hubert (Barbara), James A. Hubert, Paul E. Hubert. She leaves behind many dear friends and a loving family.

Dear Kathy, James, Chad and family,

Roy and I received word of your mother’s passing this morning as we opened the local paper.. after he had just fed Jordan, the neighbors’ black and orange tabby cat – whom we’ve now adopted when Ramona could no longer care for her! Many fond memories of your mother fill our thoughts:
Her tender love for her pets, as well as her garden; she was up early each morning planting, pruning and managing the vegetable and flower garden that we named the Garden of Eden in summer’s full glory ! She shared of her bounty too: berries, squash, beans our favorites! Our chats on the porch or inside would always include stories of her family and grandchildren.
In earlier years , she would also keep abreast of activities and newsworthy concerns in Quail Run – and come inform us down the cul-de-sac! She was surely a very capable dorm administrator all those years at Blinn College ! We’re going to miss Ramona’s larger than life smile and friendly visits to our door on Saddle Lane! As she had a lively Faith, we know our loving Lord has prepared just the right Dwelling place for her in Heaven : a large bountiful garden filled with innumerable fruitbearing trees and plants for her to delight in!

Aunt Monie,

You were one of a kind. No one more thoughtful and sweet as you. I loved listening to all your stories and reading your letters. You could do circles around me with all your energy. There was nothing those hard working hands and beautiful mind couldn’t do. You’re forever in my heart and miss you already. Rest in peace my sweet Aunt.

With all my love,

Debbie
