November 5, 1919 – September 21, 2016

Raymond Schafer, 96, of Bryan, passed away on Wednesday September 21, 2016 in Bryan. Raymond’s body was donated, as per his request to Texas A&M Health Science Center for Medical Research and study. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers Bryan-College Station.

Raymond was born to Mathias and Anna Arnes Schafer on November 5, 1919 in Fowler, Michigan. He proudly served his country during World War II. Continuing his proud tradition, he put out his flag, which he called “Old Glory” each morning and brought it in at sunset. He was a member of 40/8 Veterans Organization for 67 years also served as Chef De Gare and a 70 year member of The American Legion. After WWII, Raymond began his career at Melling Forging and was a production manager when he retired in 1984.

Preceding him in death are his parents Mathias and Ann Schafer, his wife & companion Mildred Schafer; and son, Jim Brewster.

He is survived by his daughter Janie and husband Jerrell Lueckemeyer; granddaughter, Leslie Lueckemeyer; daughter-in-Law, Martha Brewster; grandsons, David Brewster and Philip Brewster.

Janie and family–My sympathy on the loss of both Ray and Mildred, my co-worker with the City of East Lansing. After Mildred’s retirement I spent many delightful visits enjoying their stories and Raymond’s martinis. My best to you all.
