August 28, 1927 – January 29, 2017

Sam Jones, 89, of Bryan, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017, in Bryan. Visitation will be from 11 am until the time of service at 1pm at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 1, 2017. Interment will follow at Rest Ever Memorial Park in Bryan. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers-Bryan/College Station.

Samuel George Jones, a long-time resident of Bryan, passed away on January 29, 2017. He was a 1944 graduate of Abilene High School and Texas A&M University, Class of 1948. A retired Lieutenant Colonel, he served over 24 years in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. Following his military career, he ranked as national top salesman nationally for Wickes Lumber. He supported the Texas A&M Association of Former Students as a Century Club member.

Preceded in death by his parents Samuel Guy Jones and Helen L. Pope Whittemore, his wife of 67 years Lois Leslie Jones, his son Guy Robert Jones, and his youngest daughter Pamela Lynn Riley, he is survived by his daughters Leslie Wagner of Arlington and Lori Fernandez of Houston; his grandchildren and their families: David, Ben, Tim, and Rachel Wagner, Samantha Jones, Larissa Lachniet, Scott Riley, and Donovann and Madison Fernandez, and many great-grandchildren.

  1. Extending my deepest condolences to the family. Our hearts go out to you in your time of sorrow. You can take comfort in the words of Jesus when he compared death to sleep and resurrected his friend Lazarus who had been dead for four days. John 11:11-14 thus showing what he can do on a grand scale in the near future for all of those resting in the memorial tombs (God’s Psalms 83:18 memory ). Jonn 5:28, 29. We can also look forward to the time when “no resident will say I am sick”. Isa. 33:24.
