Sarah Montanez, 93, of Bryan, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019, in Bryan. A visitation will begin at 5 pm, with the rosary recited at 5:30 pm, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am, Monday, January 28, 2019, at Santa Theresa Catholic Church. Her interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, Bryan-College Station.

Sarah Montanez was born on November 3, 1925 in Milam County, Texas to Matt and Guadalupe Perez Martinez. She married her husband on July 20, 1944. All who knew her experienced her unconditional love. Sarah and her husband Jessie created a home for their three children Pascual, Margaret, and Ricardo. Her home was a joy to visit, just as her mother raised her, with the aroma of a home cooked meal being ready to serve to all her family and friends. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she delighted in seeing their accomplishments. She was a lifelong resident of Bryan, Texas and a member of Santa Teresa Catholic Church.

Her husband, Jessie Montanez; her sons, Pascual Montanez, and Ricardo Montanez; her parents, Matt and Guadalupe Martinez; her brothers, Claude Martinez, Margarito Martinez, Joe Martinez, Mike Martinez; her sister, Bennie Ostiguin; her sister-in-law, Alice Martinez; her brother-in-law Delbert Hyvl; all precede her in death.

Sarah is survived by her daughter, Margaret and husband Bob Oldham; her grandchildren Trey Oldham, Mandie and husband Jason James; Sarah’s great-grandchildren, Hudson and Hamilton James; her brother, Paul Sr., and wife Mary; her sisters, Janie and husband Danny Velasquez, Ramona Hyvl; her brother-in-law, Jessie Ostiguin; her sisters-in-law, Juanita Martinez, Mary Martinez, and Wilma Martinez; her numerous nephews and nieces, and extended family.

Honoring Sarah’s life, as Pallbearers are Trey Oldham, Jason James, Paul Martinez Jr., Jessie Ostiguin Jr., Claude Martinez Jr., Jason Velasquez, Delbert Hyvl Jr., and David Martinez.

  1. Our condolences to you and your family. Sarah was a very special, loving lady and she will be missed. Janelle was sick with a fever on Sunday and Monday so we could not make it to her services. You are all in our prayers. May she rest in peace.

  2. Memories of my Tia Sarah are great!!! My mom, Juana Ruiz and Dad, Daniel loved my Tia Sarah, she was a beautiful lady as well as awesome, loving, and caring !! She took care of us when we were little for my mom, I remember going to her house having fun she was always cooking and making tortillas, she’d give us one with butter fresh!! My sister, Rosie remembers her sew dresses for us. I loved playing at her house she had that brick wall to climb up on over on 21 on the curve and Tio Chumba, he was always real sweet to us too, loved them very much!!! Rest in peace, my beautiful Tia Sarah, hugs to you and Tio and when you see mom give her hugs for me, love you Tia <3
