Stephen “Stevie” Gerard Markowski

Stevie Markowski, 56, of Bryan, passed away on Sunday, September 17, in Grimes County as a result of an automobile accident. Life Tribute services are scheduled for 2:30pm, Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Centers. Cremation services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers Bryan-College Station.

Stevie was born to Edmond Stanley Markowski and Evelyn Josephine Wilganowski Markowski on July 24, 1961 in Bryan. Steve had a circle of friends that crossed all boundaries of what would keep some people from having. Stevie, unbelievably, knew everybody; he had so many friends. He must have kept a diary because he knew everyone by name, what they needed and where they lived. He was so full of life; he was life. He rode in antique cars (Model A’s and Model T’s) above the artic circle in Alaska. Stevie rode in the convertible for that tour. Stevie enjoyed staying in beach houses during summer trips, hunted on big ranches because of that huge circle of friends. If he came to visit he would fix all the door hinges and latches that were not done right, it’s just his nature. The carpentry of someone else that was not up to his standards he would repair for free. While fishing, hunting, camping, and tubing out at lake Somerville some how or another Stevie became the life of the PARTY!!! We will miss his passion for Bar-B-Queuing for family and friends, the great fish fries he hosted while providing the best pot of beans in the county. Do we need to mention how much he enjoyed Halloween? Stevie loved life.

Edmond Stanley Markowski, his father, precedes him in death.

Stevie is survived by his wife Jill Diane Markowski; his mother, Evelyn Josephine Markowski; his siblings Reginald Markowski and wife Beverly, Irene Markowski and husband Ken Strayhorn, Barbie Springer and husband Andy, Denise Mais and husband Jeff; his nieces and nephews Jaime Alvarado and husband Christopher, Jeffrey Markowski, Jessica Lucas and husband Ryder, Austin Strayhorn, Tiffany Velasquez and husband Andrew, Sydney Shaw and husband Eddie, Hayden Porritt, Sidney Springer and Sutton Springer; his great-nephews Reid Markowski, Daylan Velasquez, Allie Velasquez, Luke Lucas, and baby Shaw on the way.

  12. Ben Hardeman and I worked with Steve for many years during his time at OMC Industries. He also helped us several years at our ranch in Leon County and hunted on it for several seasons. In 2001, Steve joined us for several weeks during a trip to Alaska and was so much fun to have around. He learned to drive a Model T and helped keep them running. He was thrilled to actually drive above the Arctic Circle.

We were shocked and saddened to learn of his death, along with his friend Keith. Our best wishes for peace and recovery to his wife Jill and his family. Nancy and Ben Hardeman

  14. We first met Steve when he started working for Keith. They very quickly became ‘Keith and Steve’ to our family. Need something fixed – call Keith and Steve. I loved having Steve around, not only because of the quality of work he created but also because he was wonderful with my children. I loved when he and Keith would bring their lunches so my daughter could sit and talk with them. She was always interested to find out what Steve had in his lunchbox. My son would ask one question after another about his tools and what he was using them for and Steve always had an answer. No matter how much my kids bugged him, he was all smiles and answers. Engaging them and soaking up what their little minds had to offer.
To his family, I’d like to say that I’m deeply sorry for the loss of this wonderful, special person.
