Susan (Emery) Williams Wright, of College Station, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014. Her husband of 48 years, George, was at her side.

Susan was born in Hartford, Connecticut and moved to Texas with her husband and eighteen month old daughter, Laurel in 1970. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston in 1977, and worked in various nursing positions in the Houston-Galveston area. After moving to the Brazos Valley in 1983, she worked as the Public Health Nurse for Grimes County for almost fifteen years. During her service with Texas Department of Health, she completed her Nurse Practitioner education at Texas Woman’s University. She subsequently was certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and worked in that role with Texas Department of Health. After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, she continued her work with children by working with the Scott & White MOMS program in College Station.

Susan loved working with children. Her daughters and five grandchildren were her pride and joy, especially her only granddaughter, three-month-old Ingrid Lyon, of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents Helen and Harry Williams of Bolton, Connecticut.

She is survived by husband George of College Station, her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Merrill Whiston of Charleston, South Carolina; daughters Laurel Conger of Alexandria, Virginia and Ian Lyon and husband Chris of Minneapolis, Minnesota; five grandchildren Tom, George and Eli Conger of Alexandria, Virginia, as well as Oliver and Ingrid Lyon of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and brother and sister in law, Ernie and Marilyn Wright of College Station and sister in law Dorothy Wright, of Austin.

A celebration of life is planned for Friday, April 18, 2014 from 2:30 – 4 pm in the parlor of the First Presbyterian Church in Bryan.

The family extends special thanks to the caring staff at MD Anderson
Cancer Center in Houston, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan and Hospice Brazos Valley.
We also want to recognize the care provided by Dr. James Bonds, Susan’s Primary Care Physician for many years.
