William “Billy” Franklin Meads

Billy Meads
May 2, 1941 – January 21, 2019

William Franklin Meads III, 77, of College Station, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019, in Bryan at the Hospice Brazos Valley after a short courageous battle with ALS. Billy was born May 2, 1941, to Mae and Frank Meads in Bryan. He attended Bryan schools, and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1960, where he was known as Billy Frank.

As a teenager Billy Frank loved to race go-karts. When his sons became old enough, they spent many weekends at races. Billy also coached flag football, basketball, and baseball for many years. With his youngest son, he spent a lot of time camping with the Boy Scouts. He even went on a canoe trip on the lakes of Minnesota into Canada. Billy also loved to go deer hunting especially in Junction with his buddies.

Billy’s dad was a welder so he learned how to weld at the age of twelve and worked with his dad. Billy worked many years in construction especially with H & L Mechanical. When the County Kitchen that his parents had built and operated burned, he rebuilt and operated it until it had to be sold to make room for Hwy 47 in College Station. Billy took his mom’s recipes and made pies with mile-high meringue.

In 1963, Billy married Joyce Hermann. On December 22, 2019, they celebrated their fifty-fifth Anniversary.  They had three sons Justin, Jeff, and Jeremy.

Billy was baptized in the Baptist church at the age of twelve, but he joined the Lutheran Church several years after marrying Joyce. He has been a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church since 1965. He was very active in the kitchen, serving meals for Vacation Bible School, snacks for summer day camps at the church, and Sausage On A Stick for the annual Fall Festival as a member of the Fellowship Committee.

His parents, his in-laws, and his son Jeremy preceded Billy in death.

Billy’s wife Joyce; his sons, Justin and Jeff; daughter-in-law, Misty; and his grandchildren Madelynn and Jordan, and great grandson Dylan; all survive Billy. His grandchildren were the joy of his life and loved their PaPa dearly.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm, Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center in Bryan. Funeral Service will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 1001 Woodcreek, College Station. Interment will be at 2pm, following the service, in Wellborn Cemetery. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral and Cremation Centers, Bryan-College Station.

Memorial donations may be given to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church or Hospice Brazos Valley in memory of Billy Frank Meads.

  2. I have only known Mr. Meads for a short time. Every time I saw him at Nathan’s barbeque he always had a kind word for me and Dennis. He never failed to make me smile or laugh. Our thoughts and prayers are with your entire family during this time of bereavement. God bless.

  3. I know he’ll be missed. Billy Frank was one of those people that connected with people. I remember when he was young and we’d go to dances. He was so much fun. I have fond memories of Billy Frank. I’m so sorry for your loss.

  4. Joyce and family–So sorry to hear about Billy. I have many memories of Beta Sigma Phi events and how he always made them a little more fun! Thoughts and prayers to you.
