Winan Joe Hoffpauir

Winan Joseph “Joe” Hoffpauir, Jr., 84, of Bryan, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2011. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, July 15, 2011, at Callaway-Jones Funeral Home, 3001 S. College Ave., Bryan, Texas. Graveside funeral services are set for 10 a.m., Saturday, July 16, at Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe.

Joe was born May 5, 1927, in San Diego, California, to Winan and Dorothy (Stephens) Hoffpauir. Among the many hobbies he loved, his favorites were playing the piano, traveling, gardening, playing bridge, playing keyboard, and singing in a band at the Senior Center in Conroe. Joe graduated from Montgomery High School in 1944, and he was a US veteran who served his country proudly as a member of the Marines and as a radio operator in the Merchant Marines.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 14 years, Mary Agnes, and by his parents.

Survivors include his brothers, J. Stephen “Steve” and Tommy Hoffpauir. Also, he is survived by and enjoyed the company of his niece, Sallie McGehee and husband Robert H. McGehee, of College Station; nephew, John W. Stark, Jr. and wife Judy Collins, of Gainesville, Fl.; great nephews, Robert W. McGehee, of Houston, Drew McGehee and wife Shannon, of College Station, Tyler and Anna Stark, of Gainesville, Fl.; great-great niece, Riley McGehee, of College Station, whose piano playing he enjoyed greatly.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lynn, Mary Helen, Megan, Ruby and Cindy at Watercrest, all of the compassionate staff at Hospice Brazos Valley, and Doctors Thomas Ginn, Denise Turner, and Andrew DeJong.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 502 W. 26th St., Bryan, TX 77803.
